Tsinghua University holds the “Belt and Road” Policy and Action Roundtable in Davos, Switzerland

 

 

 


Tsinghua University Global Development Institute in the context of the world's botany and anti-globalization voices, the whole world has turned its attention to China, which is a global flag. It is precisely because of this that China has become the protagonist of the 2017 Davos Forum in Switzerland, and people are expecting China to bring the gospel to the 2017 world economy. In particular, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the forum and delivered an exciting speech, igniting the lights of hope for the world's lack of recovery, and making China a theme that people at all venues could not circumvent.

In order to actively respond to President Xi Jinping’s initiative during the Davos Forum, he will take practical actions to prepare for the “Belt and Road” Summit held in Beijing in May this year. January 18, 2017, Tsinghua University Global Development Institute, The International Cooperation Center of the United Nations Development and Reform Commission of the Maritime Silk Road Research Center held a round-table conference on “One Belt, One Road” policy and action in Davos, and invited many ministers, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs from countries along the “Belt and Road” to participate.

The “One Belt, One Road” policy is deeply interpreted and proposes future action plans. The meeting was chaired by Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University and Executive Director of the Institute of Global Development of Tsinghua University. Mr. Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University, and Mr. Enggartiasto Lukita, Minister of Trade of Indonesia, gave a keynote speech on the “One Belt and One Road” from the perspective of China and Indonesia. The awareness of the initiative and the introduction of the “One Belt, One Road” approach and experience in their respective countries.

Many representatives believed that the Chinese experience not only applies to China, but also has great value for other countries. Compared with Mr. Qi Bin’s investment experience, Academician Wang Hao of the Chinese Academy of Engineering introduced the importance of water resources management in the countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” from a technical perspective, and shared the advanced technology and management experience of China's water management.

According to Academician Wang Hao, at present, the total population under the highest level of water pressure in the world is 2.5 billion, and the land area under the highest level of water pressure is 30%. If there is no revolutionary change, this one has already The grim reality will continue to deteriorate rapidly. China continues to pay attention to water research. At present, China uses a global total of 6% of water and 9% of land to feed 20% of the world's population, and has successfully solved the water problem.

At present, China manages water resources from the eight levels of the omnidirectional perspective, including water security, water supply, water environment, water ecology, water landscape, water culture, water management and water economy. At present, Tsinghua University and Century Xingyuan Group have made subversive technological breakthroughs in the field of water research, greatly improving sewage treatment capacity and reducing sewage treatment costs.

In the future, we will further integrate the new generation of biochemical technology and membrane technology, and promote advanced technology to the “Belt and Road” countries and regions to create benefits for residents along the line. In the view of Academician Wang Hao, the Chinese experience may be an important "prescription" to promote the recovery of the world economy.

The "Chinese experience" proposed by Chinese scholars also aroused positive responses from foreign guests attending the conference. Experts at the meeting expressed that under the background of protectionism, China holds high the banner of global development and cooperation and wins the future of the world economy. Peter Williamson, professor of international management at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, believes that the “Belt and Road Initiative” is very important in the context of protectionism. The “Belt and Road” initiative covers many countries and regions and is supported by financial organizations such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund. Therefore, Professor Williamson suggested focusing on the core issue from the perspective of how to build a “Belt and Road” ecosystem, namely how to improve the quality of life of residents along the line. At the same time, it is recommended to pay attention to the capacity building (Capacity Building) and the improvement of soft power, and reduce the transaction cost through the improvement of the law. Furthermore, improving leadership development is also critical to the improvement of the Belt and Road Ecosystem.

Young-hoon Kim, co-chairman of the World Energy Council and president of the Dacheng Group of South Korea, highlighted the opportunity to promote the “Belt and Road” cooperation in the energy field and believed that the “Belt and Road” provides a rare opportunity for international energy cooperation. Countries along the “Belt and Road” should strengthen energy cooperation and stimulate the energy potential of the “Belt and Road” to achieve common development services for countries along the route.

Ms. Cherie Nursalim, Vice Chairman of Singapore Jiatong Group, said in her speech that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech on supporting globalization has received wide support and recognition. People have seen China as a responsible leader on the world stage. . Taking the cooperation between Jiatong Group and Tsinghua University as an example, she analyzed the achievements of the cooperation under the “One Belt, One Road” strategy and proposed a specific action plan.

Ms. Mari Elka Pangestu, former Minister of Trade and Minister of Tourism and Economy of Indonesia, introduced the connection between Indonesia and China. Infrastructure construction is the basic platform, and energy, food and tourism are the key areas. Indonesia will focus on managing marine resources and work with China to improve the capacity building of the “Belt and Road Initiative” initiative. At the same time, Ms. Mari Elka Pangestu suggested that China can help Indonesia establish railways and build training schools to provide local students with the opportunity to learn from China's advanced experience in railway construction, and to train future talents in railway construction, operation, maintenance and management to achieve sustainable development.

After the official speech, the participating experts also had a lively and free discussion. The guests expressed that the “One Belt, One Road” initiative proposed by China is an important contribution to the world economy. To promote the common development of countries along the line and the close cooperation and exchanges between the regions in various fields, and gradually build a first-class professional think tank and international exchange center for regional development research along the Maritime Silk Road.
